Plot

A weak con man panics when he learns he’s going to prison for fraud. He hires a mysterious martial arts guru who helps transform him into a martial arts expert who can fight off inmates who want to hurt or love him. A real estate con artist named Stan Minton (Rob Schneider) panics when he learns that he is going to prison for fraud. Stan’s fear of jail-house rape leads him to hire the mysterious guru known as “The Master” (David Carradine) who helps transform him into a creative martial-arts expert. During his incarceration, Stan uses his new-found skills to intimidate his fellow prisoners and prevents the prisoners from hitting each other or raping each other.
He gains their respect, and eventually becomes their leader, bringing peace and harmony to the prison yard. But the corrupt warden has a plan to profit by turning the prison into a war zone, forcing its closure, and selling off the property as valuable real estate. Stan helps him with the real estate aspects in exchange for early parole, however his peacemaking efforts threaten the warden’s plan for a riot and he is persuaded to bring back violence.
In a last minute attack of conscience he deliberately blows the parole hearing to rush back and prevent the deaths of his fellow inmates, only to discover that his message of peace has sunk in and the prisoners are dancing instead of fighting. The warden orders the guards to open fire on the dancing men and, when they refuse, grabs a gun and shoots wildly. He attempts to shoot Minton but he is stopped by Minton’s wife and the Master who have snuck in. Three years later Minton leaves from prison, now run by one of the more sympathetic guards, to be met outside by his wife, his young daughter and the Master..

Plot

In Chicago, Klaus uses Gloria the witch to find out why his hybrids aren’t turning out the way he planned and Gloria discovers that Stefan is hiding the fact that the doppelgänger is still alive. She tortures Stefan, but Katherine saves him. Back in Mystic Falls, Damon changes his attitude and kills Alaric but Alaric comes back to life. Damon then tries to kill Bill. Caroline saves her father by giving him her blood and has a confrontation with Damon. Meanwhile, Bonnie returns to Mystic Falls and Jeremy tells her about seeing his ex-girlfriends as ghosts. Stefan also tries to find out what Klaus and his sister Rebekah are running from. The answer turns out to be Mikael. Katherine steals Elena’s necklace that can contact the Original Witch and teams up with Damon. Klaus brings Stefan back to Mystic Falls to find out what he is hiding. Damon, Alaric and Elena come across Ray, whose wolf side is activated by the full moon. Damon leads him away from the others and is almost bitten, but Stefan arrives, kills Ray, and tells Damon to protect Elena. The attempt to create hybrids fails when all of the werewolves die. Tyler realizes that his mother has captured Caroline. He makes her witness his transformation into a werewolf, and Carol realizes that Caroline is not a monster. She calls her accomplice Bill and tells him not to harm Caroline, but Bill brushes her off. Caroline, who is locked up, calls Bill “Daddy” when she sees him
Katerina Petrova gives birth to a little girl and immediately has the baby taken away from her by her father, who says she has brought shame on her family.
In present day, Elena visits the boys. Rose is there. She tells them about Klaus, one of the original vampires, Elijah is his foot soldier. They’re after Elena. Rose assures them Klaus won’t quit until he gets what he wants. Elena excuses herself to go to school.
Arriving at school Jeremy casually asks Bonnie if she wants to play pool later. A new guy introduces himself as Luka to both of them and Bonnie seems to like what she sees.
Trudging through the woods, Elena is lugging a giant suitcase and telling Caroline to cover for her, especially with Stefan.
Elena goes down into the tomb, hoping to ask Katherine about Klaus. Caroline opens the giant stone tomb door. Katherine is weak and emaciated inside.
Elena urges Caroline to leave, saying she’ll be fine as long as she doesn’t cross into the tomb where Katherine is held by the spell.
She asks about Klaus. She brought the Petrova family history and a bottle of blood. She pours some in a cup and scoots it across the threshold for Katherine.
The story of her and Klaus goes back to England in 1492, after she was thrown out of Bulgaria by her family. They disowned her for having a baby out of wedlock. She met Klaus the nobleman but ran when she learned what he was.
Cut to Katherine running through the woods away from Elijah. One of the group diverts him away. Then he finds Katherine — we see that it’s Trevor, the vampire Elijah beheaded – and tells her to run.
Klaus wanted her blood.
Damon finds Rose crying over Trevor. He asks her how to find Klaus. She found Elijah through Slater in Richmond.
At school, Caroline stops Stefan on his way to check on Elena, who he thinks went home sick. She tells him she told Tyler she was a vampire.
Elena feds Katherine more blood and she explains that the curse was bound by Petrova blood. The doppelganger was created as a way to undo the spell.
Cut to Katherine running through the woods to a cabin. She finds an old woman and Rose inside. She shows her the moonstone. Rose doesn’t want to go against Klaus and tells her she’s bringing her back to him.
Rose and Damon arrive at an office building. He threatens her, warning her not to double cross him. She turns him around, reminding him she’s older and stronger. But she says he can trust her.
Slater recognizes Damon, and knows about the tomb under the church.
Katherine continues her story…
Rose checks on Katherine, who has hurt herself, saying she’d rather die than be sacrificed. Rose tries to feed her some blood. Trevor comes back, saying he loves Katherine and they can run from Klaus. They see that Katherine has hung herself.
Katherine explains to Elena that Klaus needed a human sacrifice so she turned. She draws some of her own blood and offers it to Elena, taunting her.
Back in 1492, Rose realizes that Katherine used Trevor to escape and her to turn. She knows Klaus will be after them.
Katherine is unmoved when Elena points out she ruined their lives.
Caroline and Stefan eat at the grill. He says she reminds him of his best friend Lexie. She says Tyler is freaking out about the upcoming full moon.
At another table in the Grill, Luka sees Bonnie and introduces her to his dad, Dr. Jonas Martin. She agrees to join them, waiting for Jeremy.
They moved from Louisiana. Jonas says he knew some Bennetts from his residency and asks if she has family in Salem..

Plot

A high school girl is torn between two vampire brothers.
Klaus and Stefan arrive in Chicago, where Stefan is reunited with a vampire who hasn’t moved on from her interest in him decades earlier. In a flashback to Chicago in the 1920s, Stefan comes face to face with a shocking chapter from his wild past. After Damon gets a tip on Stefan and Klaus’ whereabouts from Katherine, he and Elena follow the trail. Back in Mystic Falls, Tyler is concerned about Caroline and turns to Sheriff Forbes for help. Plot

P-A-X-497/341 (aka Pax), a curious human from a well-ordered but loveless year 3127, travels back in time to the year 2011 to satisfy his curiosity about such archaic concepts as love, passion and sex, after finding a book by newly published romance novelist Elizabeth Barrett, who also works at a newspaper that deals in primarily made up stories. He is told that love caused people to act strangely and was one of the root causes for suffering in the world. He decided to go back to the year 2011 to figure what love is. He winds up making his own discoveries when he meets Elizabeth, who turns out to be the woman of his dreams. Unfortunately, Elizabeth has a boyfriend, Richard. When Pax doesn’t return to the future by the given deadline, his fellow scientist Bob travels back in time to find him. Upon returning to the future Pax misses Elizabeth and, she is the only thing he is thinking about. He also feels he has lost his chance with her. Three years prior, Rhea hit and concussed the highly skilled prospect Xavier Laflamme (Marc-Andre Grondin) who has had trouble recovering from that incident due to the fear of being hit, being stuck in the minors and falling in with the wrong crowd. After earning himself the nickname “The Thug”, Doug is called up to Canada and hired by Laflamme’s team, the Halifax Highlanders, to protect Laflamme and be his roommate.
The Highlanders experience success with Doug as their primary enforcer, and he quickly gains popularity among fans and teammates much to the chagrin of his parents and Laflamme, particularly after losing ice time and the alternate-captaincy to Doug. Doug becomes romantically involved with Eva (Alison Pill), a hockey fan with a penchant for players.

Plot

Andrew Stanton’s two animated hits, Finding Nemo and Wall-E, gave him the right to fail — a privilege he exercises to the full with this year’s first mega-disaster, John Carter 3D.I imagine he pitched this to Disney as ‘Star Wars meets Avatar’ — but the wildly overlong, under-involving end product is more like ‘Cowboys & Aliens collide with Fire Maidens Of Outer Space’.

Handsome, muscular war veteran John Carter (played by the justifiably little known and tragically well-named Taylor Kitsch) is prospecting for gold in Arizona and doing a wretched impersonation of John Wayne when he finds himself transported to a densely populated Mars – called Barsoom by its inhabitants.
Here, he encounters Tharks, 12ft-tall green aliens with tusks, who ride Thoats, huge eight-legged hamsters. The Tharks admire Mr Carter’s superpowers, or rather superpower — he’s able to jump really, really high, which makes him a cert for a couple of gold medals in any Martian Olympics.
In the absence of such a sporting event, Carter becomes reluctantly involved in a war between the human tribes of Mars. The red-skinned Heliumites are led by peace-loving King Tardos Mors (Ciaran Hinds) and his tasty daughter, a brilliant scientist turned warrior princess.
I hoped that in this era of product placement and in view of her willingness to strip, she might be called Nitro Mors, but her name turns out to be Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins).

The red-skins’ opponents are the cruel and devious white-skinned Zodangans, led by a snarly Dominic West as Sab Than, the Prince of Zodanga. And they are urged on by mysterious, grey-skinned bald men called Therns.
Ah yes, the Therns. These are godlike creatures led by Matai Shang (the ubiquitous Mark Strong) and a nameless sidekick, who is a dead ringer for Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts.
Therns can change shape at will and impersonate women (Thern Britton?), and they have magical superpowers, which they hardly ever use, for reasons that escape me. So instead they employ the Zodangans to perpetrate their evil ends.
This is meant to be a tale of good versus evil, but more effort is spent on ogling the scantily clad warrior princess than clarifying the plot.
Stanton’s screenwriting skills are, on this evidence, slightly below those of George Lucas, so there’s plenty of clunky exposition and such inadvertent laugh-lines as: ‘I would lay down my life for Helium.’ My favourite is when the princess announces: ‘I am a regent at the Royal Helium Academy of Science.’

Some of this can be blamed on Edgar Rice Burroughs who — as well as creating Tarzan – invented the world of Barsoom in his science-fiction book of 1917, A Princess Of Mars, which had no fewer than ten sequels. Gawd help us.
Despite being hailed as a geek classic, the novel has taken a very long time to reach the screen, and it’s easy to see why. It has a ridiculously convoluted plot, lame villains and a boring, charmless hero. The film runs to 131 minutes, and feels double that.
The story’s been brought to the screen with little attempt to update it — a fatal error, as virtually every element in the book has been stolen by some science-fiction movie in the past 100 years.
Most strikingly, the hero does practically everything Daniel Craig did in Cowboys & Aliens: wake up in a desert with an amulet, discover new powers, and suffer troubling flashbacks about a dead woman he couldn’t protect.More than £160 million was spent on the movie, and the Utah scenery and special effects are reasonably impressive. But a couple of quid should have been spent on making the plot halfway plausible — and at least a tiny bit comprehensible.We’re meant to root for John Carter — and it’s hard not to when he’s attacked in gladiatorial combat by gigantic albino space- wombats — but he’s completely personality-free.Far from siding with good against evil, he seems to support whichever tribe happens to have the most attractive warrior princess showing off her Barsoom.The scale is epic and the visuals expensive, but the human element is missing, along with narrative skills and even the tiniest trace of humour.Without these, this science fiction never stood an earthly..

A story of two people who were born to hate but destined to love.In a small town in UP where muscle powers reigns and politics is conducted through the muzzle of a gun, Parma (Arjun Kapoor) is one of the grandsons of Chauhan, a political leader who is contesting for the post of the MLA. Chauhan’s bête noire, Qureshi, is the current MLA of the area. Chauhan and Qureshi are sworn enemies, whose fight for supremacy often leads to gun battles in broad daylight. Parma, who is one of the ringleaders of the Chauhan family, wants to rise up the family ladder. He brazenly uses his might to do things for the family. On the other hand, Zoya (Parineeti Chopra), Qureshi‘s gusty daughter, is no less than her brothers in her hate for the Chauhans. While canvassing for votes in their college, Parma and Zoya have a tiff and Zoya slaps Parma in front of everyone. As he has orders from the family patriarch to not indulge in violence, Parma stops short of shooting Zoya. Soon, he falls for her and woos her till she reciprocates his love. The two meet secretly and even get married in the presence of two of Parma’s friends. Immediately afterwards, Parma has sex with Zoya. Then, to her surprise, he abandons her, claiming revenge for the slap. Parma even uses photos of Zoya getting married in the Hindu way – without showing his own face – to ruin her family’s name. As a result, Zoya’s dad loses the election. Parma becomes his grandfather’s blue eyed boy. Zoya’s father decides to snap all ties with her. Zoya, meanwhile, escapes from her home with the intention to put a bullet in Parma’s head. In climax they both commit suicide.

Plot

For a really long time, he has been attempting the kind of movies he aspires to make, with not much concern for the BO. The uneven response to his last few films at the ticket window hasn’t shaken the confidence that viewers have in his abilities. His past few films were nowhere close to SHIVA, RANGEELA, SATYA, COMPANY, BHOOT, SARKAR, SARKAR RAJ and RAKTA CHARITRA-I, but regardless of the BO outcome, Ramgopal Varma is one film-maker who continues to make movies that he believes in.
Earlier, in NOT A LOVE STORY and now, in DEPARTMENT, RGV has dared to re-invent the cinematic language by changing the visual imagery. While the visual style is worth applauding and catches your eye instantly — RGV has filmed in angles not witnessed before in Hindi films — it’s the erratic and inconsistent writing that bogs down DEPARTMENT.
No one illustrates the underbelly of crime on celluloid as persuasively as RGV. The issue with DEPARTMENT is *not* the beaten to death genre, but the screenplay that has nothing novel to offer. Encounter specialists, ruthless gangsters, inter-gang rivalry, corrupt politicians… haven’t we had our fill already? One could never lay blame on RGV for taking the tried and tested route, opting for easy shortcuts while narrating a story. But, in DEPARTMENT, all you remember is style, while the substance goes for a toss.
Alarmed at the hitherto unseen escalation in underworld criminal activities, the government officials hold a secret meeting in which they take a decision to create a new unit which is unofficially referred to as ‘Department’. This special task force is formed to clean up the muck caused by gangsters.
DEPARTMENT throws light on the power struggle that exists in the police department and one expects RGV to narrate a story we haven’t heard or witnessed before. Sadly, the already exhausted genre curtails the maverick film-maker to spring surprises. To put it bluntly, DEPARTMENT is old wine packaged in a brand new bottle. Right from the characters, which we have witnessed in soooo many films of this genre, to the twists and turns in the story, RGV borrows from the past endeavors, instead of moving frontward. Besides, in an attempt to make it more mass-friendly, more ‘commercial’, RGV forcibly injects a couple of songs in the narrative [barring 'Cheeni', filmed on an alluring Nathalia Kaur] that are completely unwelcome in an enterprise that’s out to depict realism.
DEPARTMENT is soaked in high-voltage drama and action, with a consistent undercurrent of tension. As a matter of fact, there’s an overdose of action in the film, though, I must admit, a few action pieces, especially the final showdown between Sanju and Rana, is deftly executed. But the absence of a riveting and absorbing screenplay looms large in the post-interval portions. Sure, some sequences do hit you hard, but the writing tilts heavily towards been-there-seen-that kind of situations persistently, promising little or no surprise as the plot unravels. RGV’s obsession with the camera is evident here as well. He does away with the usual visual language this time, which is sure to win him admirers. The background score [Dharam-Sandeep] enhances the impact, while the dialogue are power-packed at times, but plain mediocre at places.
The central characters get extensive scope and absolutely surrender to RGV’s vision. Amitabh Bachchan is remarkably credible. Sanjay Dutt stands out with a prominent performance. But it is Rana Dagubatti who surfaces as an accomplished actor. Rana has remarkable screen charisma and is convincing in his superior portrayal of a cop.
Vijay Raaz’s character lacks meat. Abhimanyu Singh enacts his part with gusto. Madhu Shalini [Abhimanyu's love interest] catches your eye. Laxmi Manchu [Sanju's wife] is proficient. Anjana Sukhani underplays her part wonderfully. Deepak Tijori doesn’t get much scope.
On the whole, DEPARTMENT is neither novel, nor experimental, but a return to the tried and tested formula. Disappointing! .

Plot

An Kavya (Paoli Dam) does a sting operation against a corporate house, maligning their name in the market. The company head, Siddharth (Gulshan Devaiya) seeks revenge and befriends Kavya only to exploit her physically and subsequently betray her. Now Kavya seeks revenge and decides to use her sexual charm to destroy his business empire.
The story gets to the point from start and the pacing is crisp to the point that you don’t lose the narrative despite its predictability. This wounded woman’s vengeance drama dates back to films like Rekha’s Khoon Bhari Maang (1988). Vikram Bhatt’s screenplay treads in the conventional zone but is woven with enough dramatic moments and director Vivek Agnihotri handles most of it with the requisite finesse.
However the plot gives in to undue sensationalism with Kavya’s quest to be the ‘topmost prostitute of the town’, just so that she could get back to her tormentor. Further she takes lessons in lovemaking from some elite escort (a cleavage-popping Bhairavi Goswami) and you keep wondering what her approach for avenging is. Until she plans to seduce everyone from the CEO to the CM with her vital stats to get vital information against Siddharth’s company. And every male in the movie seems to be a compulsive womanizer, making Kavya’s quest as convenient as a cakewalk. Thereby the female-centric film turns into a Julie-meets-Corporate plot in its second half.
Hate Story uses lovemaking as its potent tool and there’s sufficient skin on show though in sync with the story. As lust takes over love, the aesthetic intimacy is taken over by kinky and sleazy sessions. Vivek Agnihotri balances the skin-show as per the requisite scene-tone. Though Kavya’s overblown sensuality reeks of her overconfidence, the larger idea is to show that female sexuality could be stronger than male, muscle or money power. Thankfully the film doesn’t merely bank upon the sex-quotient. Rather some contrived corporate war dominates the second half with sensuality working as breathers.
Though the pacing drops in second half, the overall editing is efficient. Cinematography is good. However better dialogues could have added to the drama.
The film largely relies on its female lead both in terms of its performance and physicality. While Paoli Dam doesn’t disappoint one bit on the latter aspect, she is not bad in terms of her acting abilities either. She doesn’t incite the pathos that one could fervently feel for her character’s plight. But though her act is not accomplished, she manages to pull off her role quite well. Gulshan Devaiya as the negative lead puts in a compelling act. Even in the stammering cliche attributed to his character, he tries to bring in some conviction. Nikhil Dwivedi features almost in an extended special appearance but is decent enough as Kavya’s support system..

Plot

A high school girl is torn between two vampire brothers.
Elena and Alaric head to Tennessee, where they believe Klaus is trying to create hybrid slaves, and Damon joins them. Ray and his werewolf pack suffer horribly after Klaus tries to turn them into hybrids. Damon, Alaric and Elena come across Ray, whose wolf side is activated by the full moon. Damon leads him away from the others and is almost bitten, but Stefan arrives, kills Ray, and tells Damon to protect Elena. The attempt to create hybrids fails when all of the werewolves die. Tyler realizes that his mother has captured Caroline. He makes her witness his transformation into a werewolf, and Carol realizes that Caroline is not a monster. She calls her accomplice Bill and tells him not to harm Caroline, but Bill brushes her off. Caroline, who is locked up, calls Bill “Daddy” when she sees him
Katerina Petrova gives birth to a little girl and immediately has the baby taken away from her by her father, who says she has brought shame on her family.
In present day, Elena visits the boys. Rose is there. She tells them about Klaus, one of the original vampires, Elijah is his foot soldier. They’re after Elena. Rose assures them Klaus won’t quit until he gets what he wants. Elena excuses herself to go to school.
Arriving at school Jeremy casually asks Bonnie if she wants to play pool later. A new guy introduces himself as Luka to both of them and Bonnie seems to like what she sees.
Trudging through the woods, Elena is lugging a giant suitcase and telling Caroline to cover for her, especially with Stefan.
Elena goes down into the tomb, hoping to ask Katherine about Klaus. Caroline opens the giant stone tomb door. Katherine is weak and emaciated inside.
Elena urges Caroline to leave, saying she’ll be fine as long as she doesn’t cross into the tomb where Katherine is held by the spell.
She asks about Klaus. She brought the Petrova family history and a bottle of blood. She pours some in a cup and scoots it across the threshold for Katherine.
The story of her and Klaus goes back to England in 1492, after she was thrown out of Bulgaria by her family. They disowned her for having a baby out of wedlock. She met Klaus the nobleman but ran when she learned what he was.
Cut to Katherine running through the woods away from Elijah. One of the group diverts him away. Then he finds Katherine — we see that it’s Trevor, the vampire Elijah beheaded – and tells her to run.
Klaus wanted her blood.
Damon finds Rose crying over Trevor. He asks her how to find Klaus. She found Elijah through Slater in Richmond.
At school, Caroline stops Stefan on his way to check on Elena, who he thinks went home sick. She tells him she told Tyler she was a vampire.
Elena feds Katherine more blood and she explains that the curse was bound by Petrova blood. The doppelganger was created as a way to undo the spell.
Cut to Katherine running through the woods to a cabin. She finds an old woman and Rose inside. She shows her the moonstone. Rose doesn’t want to go against Klaus and tells her she’s bringing her back to him.
Rose and Damon arrive at an office building. He threatens her, warning her not to double cross him. She turns him around, reminding him she’s older and stronger. But she says he can trust her.
Slater recognizes Damon, and knows about the tomb under the church.
Katherine continues her story…
Rose checks on Katherine, who has hurt herself, saying she’d rather die than be sacrificed. Rose tries to feed her some blood. Trevor comes back, saying he loves Katherine and they can run from Klaus. They see that Katherine has hung herself.
Katherine explains to Elena that Klaus needed a human sacrifice so she turned. She draws some of her own blood and offers it to Elena, taunting her.
Back in 1492, Rose realizes that Katherine used Trevor to escape and her to turn. She knows Klaus will be after them.
Katherine is unmoved when Elena points out she ruined their lives.
Caroline and Stefan eat at the grill. He says she reminds him of his best friend Lexie. She says Tyler is freaking out about the upcoming full moon.
At another table in the Grill, Luka sees Bonnie and introduces her to his dad, Dr. Jonas Martin. She agrees to join them, waiting for Jeremy.
They moved from Louisiana. Jonas says he knew some Bennetts from his residency and asks if she has family in Salem..
